Emergency Alert System

Overview

Emergency Alert distribution systems require high reliability. This can best be achieved by disconnecting from complex networks and terrestrial infrastructure that can fail in disasters whether natural or man-made. Recent history has illustrated clearly the susceptibility of centralized communications systems.

We at Satstream recommend a time proven "old" technology: SCPC, or single channel per carrier, using our narrow band solution. The advantage of SCPC is the absence of any networks, phone lines or other complexity between the uplink and the destination receivers. Only the satellite separates you from the receiver.

Our product receives standard US EAS protocol audio and converts it into a low bandwidth data stream. At the receiving end, this stream is interpreted and a fresh local EAS protocol audio stream is generated. By digitally compressing the voice announcement and digitizing the EAS text message, we save bandwidth and then regenerate a distortion free EAS audio output. Lower bandwidth leads to lower satellite costs.

We offer the EAS option with most of our products (Option Z), but for the most secure Emergency Alert System we strongly recommend the use of SCPC.
